Heron Construction has forged a reputation on concrete construction projects such as pumping stations and bridges, and is recognised as a pioneer in horizontal pipe thrusting and trenchless technology in New Zealand and the South Pacific. Heron has grown its capacity and reputation over the last 50 years and now is involved mainly in dredging operations and marine construction works.
Heron Construction were looking for a refuelling solution for the 200 Tonne crane aboard their 55 X 19 meter piling barge “Calliope” which was finishing up a job sinking 450 meters of 1600mm (dia) HDPE pipe with 700 Tonne of ballast nlocks in St Mary’s Bay in Auckland. It’s next job is the Waiheke Island Marina where it will install 36m (l) X 1.5m (dia) 21 Tonne piles for the biggest Marina pontoons currently in New Zealand at 20m(l) X 6m(w) X 4m(d), weighing approximately 200 Tonnes each.
Heron Construction required a fuel storage solution that could transport fuel legally and safely on public roads and could perform consistently and reliably in remote Marine environments to keep the crane running with minimal opportunity for fuel deliveries to site. Having provided similar solutions in the past, Heron knew they could rely on Fuelchief for this fuel solution.
With a safe fill level of just under 2,700L the Fuelchief 27TCGCAB Transcube had the capacity to ensure the crane could keep operating with minimal down time and as a UN approved IBC, would move fuel to site safely and legally. A 240V high flow pump kit was powered onsite and meant the crane could be refuelled quickly and efficiently as required. The lockable pump bay with a gull wing door allowed ease of access and ensued expensive components were kept out of the elements. The galvinised lifting points and removable inner tank meant the unit could be maintained in excellent condition ensuing a long and productive lifespan.
With safe and compliant refuelling thanks to the 27TCGCAB, Calliope will keep project downtime to a minimum to ensure Heron Construction can meet strict project completion dates on time and under budget!
