Southern Aggregates is part of the HW Richardson (an established Kiwi Transport company) Quarrying operations. They are responsible for a hard rock quarry at Greenhills near Bluff; a sand and aggregate plant at Oreti Beach near Invercargill; and three mobile crushing plants and a mobile screening plant throughout Southland and Otago. The company produces a range of products from 1mm serpentine dust to railway ballast and ornamental boulders at Greenhill; roading and construction aggregates; and concrete sand and aggregates.
Peter Reid of Southern Aggregates contacted the Fuelchief team to find a solution to refuel their various machines working in different areas of a quarry. The unit needed to be capable of being transported on public roads as well as standing up to the rigours of a quarry site. In addition, with vehicles being refuelled at various heights and angles accessibility and range was going to be a determining factor.
Southern Aggregates approached Fuelchief due to the supply of a similar unit supplied previously which had handled a similar application with outstanding success. The solution provided by our Sales Leader Rowan, was the TransCube 17TCGCAB with petrol powered Honda pump kit, mounted on a tandem axle trailer with custom hose reel and swivel. The Transcube 17TCGCAB provided the storage capacity required and once fitted with a petrol driven Honda Pump could fill the machines quickly and efficiently. Fuelchief’s heavy duty trailer was selected to meet the off-road demands of the quarry while still being light enough to be legally transported on public roads with a full tank. Finally, to meet the accessibility requirements a 15 metre customised hose reel was mounted on the trailer draw bar using an innovative 180° swivel.
Peter is very happy with the outcome of the new trailer tank; it tows well around the quarry and the custom hose reel and swivel work better than anticipated. The equipment around the quarry site can now be filled quickly and efficiently with minimal down time for the operators.
Rowan commented “The best part of this project was delivering a customised engineered solution which really pushed the creative limits of what our experienced team could achieve. Great to see it in-field and exceeding our clients expectations!”
